This easy basic chocolate bun recipe is perfect for both beginners and experienced cooks alike. It is quick to make and easy to get great results with a bit of practice.
These buns are made with self-raising flour although you could equally use plain flour and baking powder if you prefer.
They are great for all occasions, children’s parties, etc. If you want to batch cook them you can freeze them. They are never quite the same as fresh, though.
An Easy to Bake Tasty Basic Chocolate Bun Recipe
Ingredients
- 110 g Flour self-rasing 4oz
- 170 g caster sugar 6oz
- 170 g butter or baking margarine 6oz
- 60 g of good quality cocoa powder High percentage of coco (2oz
- 3 eggs
Instructions

Mix together the cocoa, self-raising flour, caster sugar, butter and eggs until they are fully mixed together and the mixture is smooth

Preheat your oven until it reaches the required temperature

Place your bun cases into the bun tins (About 12 cases)

Divide your mixture evenly between all of your bun cases leave room for them to rise so don’t fill to the top

Preheat your oven to 190C / Gas mark 5/ 374F

Cook the buns for about 14-17 minutes. Check that they have risen and are springy when you touch them if they are they are ready, if not cook until they are.

When they are ready, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool down
